Enjoying Korea's Thanksgiving Days as a Foreigner!

Hello! Everyone! Are you ready for the upcoming event? Oh yes, there’s going to be the Thanksgiving Day( Chuseok) in Korea! Have you decided how to celebrate for that Chuseok (추석)Holiday? If you haven’t decided yet, let me help you a bit! 

Firstly, I know you all might know about Chuseok holiday; but who knows, some might not be fully aware of this holiday, right? Or as the globalization is getting well on these days, there might also be some foreigners in Busan and they might want to enjoy the Korean Traditional Holiday .






Chuseok , already known as hangawi (한가위 ) is a major harvest festival and three days holidays in Korea, celebrated in the 15th day of the 8th month of the lunar calendar on the Full Moon. Like many other harvest festivals around the world, it is held around the autumn equinox.



  In this year, the Chuseok holiday period will take place for five days, September 14 to 18, including the weekend. How lucky we are! We are going to have so much time to enjoy Korean culture! I would like to recommend some things  to do during Chuseok Holidays. They are as follows.



1.To know the Chuseok customs and enjoy yourself.
2.To taste the traditional Chuseok foods such as Songpyeon (송편), Hangwa(한과) ,etc.
3.To try to visit unique Korean cultural tourism places (like as  Namsangol Hanok Village,The National Folk Museum of Korea and the Korean Grand Palaces.)
4.To Takes pleaseure by doing traditonal Korean games such as  Ssireum (traditional Korean wrestling), Ganggangsullae (Korean circle dance),etc.
5.To get new experience by  Chuseokbim (Chuseok Korean traditional  dress).


Chuseok customs;

     Among Chuseok customs, Charye(차례),    Beolcho(벌초)and Seongmyo(성묘)are wellknown.

 


Charye(차례)



Charye, is held  in honor of Korean family members' ancestors. For doing the Charye service, familly memebers gather together and they pay the worship.
Beolcho(벌초)
 Beolcho(벌초) is clearing the weeds around the graves.


Seongmyo(성묘)
Seongmyo(성묘)  is visiting to the ancestral graves during Chuseok.


In Chuseok, most of the Korean family doing these things because for showing their respects and love of their ancesters.

송편) is the main reprsentative food for Korea's Thanksgiving Days.
